Another Holiday season is upon us and here we are with yet another Bethpage wrestling season underway.

Healthy Holidays to everyone in the Bethpage wrestling family including alumni, coaches, parents and friends.

Information for Alumni Day sign-up and our annual membership fundraising drive follows below. We hope to see you all on Saturday January 14, 2012 once again for a full day of wrestling and alumni greetings as well as a night of food and spirits.

ALUMNI DAY/NIGHT – HONORING OUR NY STATE PLACEWINNERS-JANUARY 14, 2012

Alumni Day:
This year we’d like to see a strong turnout for the day’s festivities as well as the dinner gathering at Whoville on Broadway that evening. The Golden Eagles wrestling quad meet should go from about 9AM to 5PM. At about 2PM we will honor those who reached the pinnacle of HS wrestling success in NY State by achieving All-NY State honors.

The Bethpage Golden Eagles program has had 11 such wrestlers. One is a state champ, and 3 others are multiple time NY State place-winners. The honorees are listed below with their accomplishments and the year they achieved their All-State status. Let’s work together as a group to get all 11 of these honorees to our annual event as well as a good showing of teammates to support them and the Bethpage Wrestling Alumni club efforts.

Alumni Night:
We will plan to meet at Whoville for a 7PM start. Open bar (beer and wine) from 7-10 and food as usual will be served.

After 10PM is a cash bar.

THIS YEAR’S TEAM
Last year we crowned a county champ and state place-winner in Jermaine John who is now starting in the Hofstra University lineup as a true freshman at 174 pounds. We also had 8th grader Jake Einbeinder place 3rd in Nassau County at 103 pounds. Jake’s only loss in the county tournament came in OT to a 2X NY State place-winner from Long Beach.

The 2011-2012 team will be led by Senior Alex Houston along with underclassmen Jake Einbinder and Anthony Carello. Einbinder and Carello are both double champions at the Hank Paris and Bethpage Dad’s Club tourneys already this season. Other returning County tournament qualifiers include Brendon Peliteri and Charlie Bachmeier. Rounding out the lineup are varsity returners Sam Romano and Andrew Jedd along with this year’s starters Michael Lewis, Cory Settino, Nick Kelly, James Fernandez, Chris Mastanduno and Dylan Sealock.

Jermaine John places 5th in NY State Tournament

Jermaine John capped-off a terrific season and oustanding Bethpage wrestling career with a 5th place finish in the 2011 NY State Wrestling Tournament at 160 pounds. Congratulations to Jermaine and we wish him the best in his upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 folkstyle and freestyle season as well has his quest to wrestle in college.

Jermaine John Wins the Nassau County Tournament & Jake Einbinder takes 3rd
The Bethpage wrestling season continued this weekend at Hofstra University with the Golden Eagles crowning their first county champion in 11 years. Jermaine John defeated Cataldo of Macarthur handily tonight to secure a trip to the NY State tournament in Albany in two weeks. Jermaine finshed 3rd in Nassau the past two seasona but this year would not be denied. He won 4 matches en route to the title by pin, technical fall, 3-0 in the semis and 11-2 in the finals.
Eighth grader Jake Einbinder won 6 matches this weekend to take 3^rd place in the 103 pound weight class. Jake’s only loss came to a defending county champ and 4^th in NY state Long Beach wrestler. He pushed that match into OT losing 4-2 in the quarter finals.

Successful Night at the Races Fundraiser for the Bethpage Wrestling Club
The Bethpage Wrestling Club presented a night of food, drink and betting that resulted in over $3900 in funds to the Bethpage Wrestling Club account. A turnout of 100 people created a great night with lots of laughs and a healthy amount of funds to our club. Many thanks to Lou Candito for spearheading the event with help from many Bethpage wrestling parents and friends. Also a special thanks to 3 local businesses that contributed gift certificates as door prizes: Pappardelle’s, Opa Grille and B.K. Sweeney’s.
A Night at the Races to Benefit Bethpage Wrestling
The Bethpage Wrestling Alumni Club will be sponsoring its first Night at the Races
fundraising event on Saturday April 10th from 6:30PM to 11PM. The event will be held
at the Knights of Columbus hall on Central Avenue.
Enjoy a night of food, drinks and fun while betting on virtual horses and watching the action
unfold. You may even ride a horse or two that night yourself!

Ticket cost for the evening is $35 per person and includes Beer, wine, hot buffet, dessert and
coffee. Then bet on the races and join in the fun.

All net proceeds will support the Bethpage Wrestling Club.

There are a limited # of tickets available. To purchase tickets in advance call

Bethpage places 2 at County tournament
Jermaine John placed 3rd in Nassau at 160 pounds. That was the second consecutive year Jermaine placed 3rd in Nassau, and he will return as a senior next season. Junior Dominic Aspesi placed 6th at 135 pounds and restunrs next year to improve that performance.
Bethpage has 3 champs at county qualifying tourney and qualifies 7 for the county tournament.

Hank Paris Tournament
Bethpage started the 2009-2010 wrestling season in the Hank Paris tourney at Plainview-Old Bethpage H.S. The Golden Eagles had two champs: Dom Aspesi at 135 pounds and Ivan Dunat at 285 pounds. Returning county 3rd place finisher Jermaine John did not wrestle in this tourney bit is expected to start his season in the Bethpage Dad’s Club tourney on Saturday December 12th.

Bethpage places 3 at the Nassau County 2009 wrestling championships…Meza gets wild card as an entry to the NY State tournament.
Senior German Meza placed 3rd at 145 avenging his only loss of the season in his 3rd place match by pinning Tyler Dunne of Macarthur. His reward was a wild card entry to the NYState tournament in Albany. Congrats to German!
Sophomore Jermain John placed 3rd at 152 pounds and Senior Christian Toscano placed 4th at 119 pounds.
Bethpage placed 12th as a team in this year’s D1 county tournament.

Bethpage qualifies 9 for the Section wrestling tournament. German Meza won the qualifier so he will recieve a top 6 seed…most likely 3rd seed.

Bethpage placed 3rd as a team behind Plainedge and Calhoun. German Meza, returning all county arrives late due to the SAT schedule…allowed to wrestle in the wrestlebacks he takes 3rd at 152. Christian Toscano, expcted to do well this season with all county possibilities withdrew after an recurring shoulder injury in the semifinals. Word is he should be OK. Freshman 96 pounder Alex Houston makes it to the finals but gets pinned. He will grow into a full sized 96 or 103 pounder next year and he will be a good one. Should be a competitive year for him this season. Dennis Gonzales places 2nd also at 130 pounds and loses a tight 4-3 match. 285 pounder Dom Volpe also loses in the finals by a pin. He will improve as this season progresses. We also have another 285 pounder Ivan Dunitz who should do well this season.
Bethpage Dad’s Club tourney is this weekend…Saturday Dec 13th.
